Aftercare and Tips

Optimizing Results: Aftercare Guidance

Before Your Appointment
One Month Prior
  • Discontinue Retin-A, Botox, fillers, microdermabrasion, chemical peels, facials and tanning.
  • Discontinue waxing, threading, plucking, or trimming your brows. Try to do this longer than a month if possible. The more hair we have, the better we can shape your brows at your appointment.
  • Discontinue glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid (or any other exfoliating acids) as part of your skincare regime.
  • Refrain from getting any botox until after your appointment.
  • Discontinue taking vitamin E and fish oil, as these thin the blood and can affect your microblading results.
  • Discontinue drinking tea, coffee, energy drinks or any other caffeinated beverages – these will thin the blood and can alter the results of your microblading.
  • Discontinue drinking any alcoholic beverages – this will thin the blood and can alter the results of your microblading.
  • Do not take any pain killers other than Tylenol – all others will thin the blood and can alter the results of your microblading.
  • Avoid workouts and excessive sweating.

What to Expect in the First 14 Days:

Intensified colour and slight redness are normal and a part of the initial stages of healing. Be patient. Please do not freak out. Redness will fade in a few hours.

In a few days, the microstrokes we did will start to oxidize and form light scabs, and they might look a tiny bit darker and thicker. As the skin heals, your brows will begin to flake lightly and the strokes that we did will come off in random pieces throughout the brow. You might look slightly patchy throughout the week but remember that it is normal and temporary. Please refrain from picking at your brows as you run the risk of removing pigment in the process.

When the scabs fall off, do not feel discouraged if the strokes are not immediately visible and/or appear to have healed patchy. This is completely normal. Over the next few weeks as your skin naturally exfoliates your brows will gain strength in colour, settling between weeks 6 and 8. The healed result will be approximately 30% – 50% lighter than the first day.

Aftercare Tips
For those with Dry/Sensitive Skin:
  1. Pat your brows with a damp paper towel to remove any lymphatic fluid.
  2. Pat your brows with a dry paper towel until they are completely dry.
  3. Apply a thin layer of the balm (about the size of a grain of rice, per eyebrow) after patting your brows dry. Ensure that you are applying it to the skin/strokes and not just the brow hairs.
  4. Repeat steps 1-3 every 2-3 hours until you start to flake.

If you start to flake: Stop patting wet and dry, and only use the balm when your timer goes off.

If you dont have any flaking: Don’t change your routine.

Full healing typically takes 10-14 days.

  1. You can shower normally and get your brows wet, but avoid having the shower spray directly on them. Once finished with your shower, pat your brows really dry and put a little balm.

  2. Other than face wash, avoid putting any other products on your brows OR forehead while they are healing. That means no cream, no moisturizer, no serums, no makeup, no spf, etc.

  3. No working out. At all. This is not negotiable.

  4. Avoid sun exposure until brows are healed. Wear a hat while outside.

  5. Avoid picking or scratching at your brows. Apply balm if your brows are itchy.

  6. Avoid any of these products on your brows OR forehead for the next 8 weeks:

    • Hyaluronic Acid, Salicylic Acid, Glycolic Acid

    • AHA’s and BHA’s

    • Retinoids (Retinol/Retin-A)

    • Vitamin C

Once you are fully healed (approximately 2 weeks) you can go back to your normal routine (other than #6!)

Before Your Appointment
One Month Prior

Refrain from any waxing or hair removal in the brow area ideally for a month or more. The more hair present on the day of the appointment, the better. The extra hair growth allows us to tweak your brows into greater symmetry and shape.

  • Refrain from suntanning, microdermabrasion, dermaplanning, laser treatment, and chemical peels for at least 2-3 weeks before receiving Microblading.
  • Refrain from receiving Botox and Fillers for at least 2-3 weeks before your appointment. You may get them the day after your appointment.
  • You must be off any and all Retin-A or Retinol products for a minimum of 3 weeks prior to your appointment and a minimum of 8 weeks post appointment. These products can cause premature fading and color loss.
  • Refrain from alcohol, coffee, energy drink, and tea consumption for 48 hours before your appointment.
  • Refrain from all medications that cause thinning of the blood including but not limited to: Aspirin, Advil, Aleve, Niacin, Fish Oil, Vitamin E, and Ibuprofen for 48 hours before your appointment. Please consult your physician before stopping any medication.

If you are experiencing any blemishes, acne, cold sores, any other skin irritations, or have a mole in or around the area of procedure please contact Nu Tatu immediately with photos of the area via e-mail for assessment. It is up to the discretion of our artists to decide whether or not they have a workable surface. Failure to communicate any of these may result in a cancellation or rescheduling of your appointment. All deposits are nonrefundable.

Aftercare Tips
The first 48 hours after your saline removal appointment

The treated area has been sanitized and is starting to dry out. It’s important that you allow your skin to fully dry during the next 48 hours. This means you cannot get the area wet, no washing the area, no sweating, and no creams or products of any kind. Drying out the skin like this prevents any irritation and inflammation and will pull out more pigment in the process. Any redness of the skin will subside in the next 48 hours.

The treated area will now be quite dry, and a thin scab will have formed. You have been provided Cavilon barrier wipe for better and faster healing. Use the provided cavillon wipe to wipe your brows, ensuring that you cover the entirety of the scab and a little beyond the edges.

The scab will begin to lift and flake lightly as it heals over the next few days. Do not pick or pull at the scab. It is ok if the scab gets a little wet when showering or washing your face, but you must pat it dry immediately after.

Once all of the flaking has stopped, you are fully healed and can resume your normal routine.

  1. You can shower normally and get your brows wet briefly, but avoid having the shower spray directly on them. Once finished with your shower, pat your brows really dry.
  2. Other than face wash, avoid putting any other products on your brows OR forehead while they are healing. That means no cream, no moisturizer, no serums, no makeup, no spf, etc.

  4. Avoid sun exposure until brows are healed. Wear a hat while outside.
  5. Avoid picking or scratching at your brows.
